How to Design Band Merch That Actually Sells
June 18, 2026 · Los Angeles Printing Depot

Merch is half the income on a lot of tours — and a great shirt is a walking billboard. The bands that sell out the merch table treat the tee like an album cover: bold, legible from ten feet, and unmistakably theirs.
Design for the back of the room
- One strong idea. A logo, a lyric, a symbol — not all three.
- High contrast. Light art on dark shirts reads on stage and in photos.
- Vector or high-res art. 300 DPI at full print size keeps edges crisp.
Pick the right blank
Fans wear merch for years, so the garment matters. A heavyweight cotton tee feels like a keepsake; a soft tri-blend reads premium for a higher price point. Offer one classic dark colorway plus one accent and you cover most of the table.
Size your run
A rough size curve that rarely fails: more mediums and larges than anything else, a few smalls, and a healthy stack of XL/2XL. Print method scales with quantity — screen printing gets cheap per shirt past ~24, while DTG/DTF let you test a design in a small batch first.
Drop your art into the designer, pick your garment and colors, and get a same-day quote — no minimums, so you can print for one show or a whole tour.
